School Tour

Pentland Primary is the amalgamation of the former Comiston and Hunter’s Tryst Primary Schools. It caters for children of any religious denomination and offer two years pre-school education as well as the seven years of primary education. The school lies about 8km south west of Princes street in the Oxgangs area of the city. We are close enough to Braidburn Park, Hermitage of Braid, Swanston Village and the Pentland Hills to enable us to make use of them when the occasion arises. We are a bus journey from the centre of Edinburgh, with its museums, galleries and other places of interest.

There are somewhere in the region of 330 children on the roll, organised into around fourteen classes- we have specialist teachers in Physical education, music, ICT, art and brass. The school was completely rebuilt in 2007 and we now have excellent new facilities for our pupils. Classrooms have an interactive whiteboard so that the children’s participation and learning is enhanced through the use of ICT.

Classes have different zones within the playground that separate the younger children from the older children. Playground supervisors monitor the playground during morning break and lunch time to ensure that accidents or difficulties can be dealt with quickly. Children from P7 apply for, and if successful, are appointed as a ‘Playground Buddies.’ These children wear caps so that younger children can identify them. The P7 Buddies are responsible for helping the younger children learn how to play.
